inundated with drugs

Yeah, there's a drug around for nearly everything and it's tough to consider how reliant we seem to have become on meds. Perhaps it should be instructive that the prosperous among us are not exempt, in fact, may well be more inclined to medicate.

The good news (in a manner of speaking) is that we can't afford them. Short of a radical change in health care and the pharmaceutical industry, it seems to me that we have little choice but to move in the direction of preventative health care. This bodes well for those of us intending to eke out a living as TCM practitioners.

I am, too, grateful for the pathway towards preventative medicine, because so many cannot afford to get sick- financially or physically speaking. It's a bother for those who do require an antibiotic and must figure out the best way to access it. Or, if one assumes a particular drug will be affordable and attempts to pay out of pocket, there is often a shocking betrayal of the pharmaceutical industry at the cost. Though sometimes the high cost is necessary to combat a particular disease.

Absolutely! For those of us who can't afford insurance or meds, there is a nice balance here where people will start paying attention to preventative health care options. In paying for preventative health care, which in turn helps those aiding in preventative care, we'll finally see some pennies coming out of this. Not that money is why we do this, but the supportive balance in the system is starting to shift a little. I support my local farmer's markets, shop at Ma & Pa shops, trying my best not to support "the man" and preventative health care adds to that support system. Bianca has a valid point - meds have their place. I'm excited to see the balance of western & eastern medicine take shape!
